Hey I am new to the whole backyard flock stuff. My chickens are dying I had one pass about a month ago she was acting strange but then she would be fine and the she started acting strange again where she didn’t wanna be around the rest of the flock she wasn’t eating and she would walk slow. Today I had another one pass with the same symptoms. Then about two weeks ago I noticed one of my girls was mouth breathing but she wasn’t full open mouth breathing just a little and sneezing. I don’t think she has gapeworms because they say that gapeworms they open mouth breath really wide and extended their neck up a lot and she’s not doing that. She’s eating and drinking but I have her separated from the flock. Her comb looks good nice red color but I am calling the vet tomorrow to try and get in tomorrow to see what’s going on with her. I have tried the vet rx and tylan 50 injectable but nothing has seemed to work for her. I just don’t know what’s going on their coop gets cleaned daily I have all purpose sand down for Easy clean up and I have hay for their nesting boxes. My girls are mid age and the rest are acting fine but I just don’t know what’s going on. I have turned to Google to try to figure out what’s going on but again I’m new to this and I don’t want anymore of my ladies dying on me.

I'm so sorry that this us happening!

Are their crops emptying overnight? Stretching their necks and "yawning" is how they adjust their crops.

Are their poops normal? What are they eating?

To post a video, it's best to upload it to YouTube and then upload it to BYC.

Her crop is empty every morning I check on her before she gets food. Her poop is normal but I did notice Friday the hen that passed today had really watery poop but I didn’t think anything of it because it was a hot day and I figured she drank a lot of water. But could it have been something else? And they are on 20% lone star layer pellets. I just posted the video

She looks so miserable. Poor girl.

Lemme tag some more experienced folks.

I'm wondering a couple of things:

1) Do you see anything in her throat? I just read that it might be wet fowl pox.

2) Can you swab her throat with a q-tip and see if there are any worms?

3) Are her pupils normal sized/the same size as each other?

I am NOT any kind of expert. I am just regurgitating what other people have suggested in similar situations.

Can you get a video of her standing or one without you holding her?
Any bloat or feeling of fluid in the abdomen below the vent between her legs?

Any chance the feed has gotten moldy?
Any mold or mildew in the coop from a leak or water spill?

Do you have the body of the one the one that just died? If so, think about sending it for necropsy to find out more.

Have you added any new birds recently?

I did swab her throat last week and no worms were on it
Her pupils are the exact same
