I need some help! I have lost 4 chickens since mothers day. I notice about a week before they die that they are acting funny. By that I mean ...... I can walk right up to them and they don't run away. (My chickens are not that tame ..... unless I have table scraps) Within a few days the hens no longer can or will walk. They also have a pasty butt. I am thinking that is becuz she is not moving and it just sticks to her. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be. It seems to be spreading to my other hens.

as soon as you notice a sick bird separate from the others. It could be Mareks, it could be something else. the only way to be sure is a necropsy In some states you can get it done at a university and it may be fairly inexpensive. In Mi. it cost me $80 and they wanted at least 3 birds if I could provide. I have heard of other places were it is much cheaper.
My birds would get very thin, bout only 1 of the many showed the classic signs of paralyses that you read about. I had 3,4,5,weeks between sick birds. it is every were according to the vet. and is carried in the feather dander
I would suggest giving your coop a thorough bleach water scrubbing. try to remove as much dust as possible cause that is were it hangs.

I don't know how many birds you have, hopefully at some point they will be come immune. any new birds should be vaccinated.
