I just bought a few new chicks to add to my flock over the weekend. (1) Mauve Silkie, (2) Chocolate Showgirl Silkies, (2) Lavender Orps, and (2) Zombie Bantams. The Chocolate Silkies keep sneezing. No other symptoms. I did see one red stool, not sure who is was from, but I have not seen any since. The silkies are the oldest they hatched the 4th while the others hatched on the 10th. I'm giving them all medicated feed (with amprolium) and I am going to add nutridrench later today. Any other things I could be missing? Or anything else I need to do? At this point, since they've all been together over 24-36 hours, I figure I need to make sure they're all treated. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I had chicks with red stool earlier this year, it turned out that they had coccidia from eating the feed they had knocked into the wood chips and pooped on. It was under the deep wood chips so i didn't see it until i did a very thorough cleaning.🙄 I would recommend giving them colloidal silver and a good cleaning of their area.

Hi! Welcome to BYC!

Have you seen any more blood or any acting lethargic, just standing around fluffed up?

If so, you'll need to pick up something to treat coccidiosis. The vast majority use Corid. If you wind up doing this, stop any further vitamins until the dosage is done, presumably 5 days. After that, they should get the vitamins in their water for a few days then you can go back to every couple of days.

Sneezing isn't a symptom of coccidiosis, so if you think it isn't that, then continue with your Nutra Drench, as the vitamin boost should help if they're coming down with a respiratory infection.

Have you had chicks in that same brooder and location before? I'm just wondering if there's something in the area or the bedding they could be allergic to.

So I started the Coris last night after reading some other posts. This chick is the one acting the funniest. Isolating herself, sneezing the most, and lethargic. Or at least more lethargic than the others. I have her separated right now. The others are all acting normal. Pecking away at a vegetable right now. But this girl, idk what to do with. She will peck at the food, not at a vegetable, but getting water in her is difficult. Poop looks normal. One min she’s like this the next she seems normal.

She's so cute! :love

I wouldn't be giving them anything to eat but their starter crumbles until they're a few weeks old. If she's eating any of that vegetable, then she needs grit to grind it in her crop.

You can try wetting their crumbles in a small shallow dish, like a plastic peanut butter lid works. Sometimes that goes over better than dry, and plus gives them a little bit of hydration.

Since they're on Corid now, make sure they are only on that Corid water, no other water and no extra vitamins until five days are past, and you're done. Then be sure to give them some every other day for a couple of weeks. Being silkies, they can become vitamin deficient very easily, more so than most other chicks.
