Hi i was looking for advice on my muskovy duck, she is just under 1 year old and i recently noticed that her face is turning orange (its normally nice and red) and from what uve read i think she may be anemic. She also does not want to leave the chook house (she lives with chooks) even though she isnt broody, and not always wanting food.

Any advice would be good

I haven't dealt with this issue before. Pictures would be helpful. If she is not eating much, I would keep an eye on her weight. If you don't have tube feeding supplies, you might want to get some to have on hand just in case it gets to that point. If you think it is anemia, I would look her over head to toe for a bleed or bruising, or blood in feces

These people have experience with Muscovy and may have an idea.

My Muscovy females skin around their faces turns orangish when they aren't laying which is this time of year. But the fact your females doesn't want to leave the coop makes me wonder if something else is going on. Could the chooks be bullying her? Keeping her away from food and water and keeping her from coming outside? How long has she lived with them? Ever noticed her carnucles bloody?

She has lived with them since she ews 3 months old and they get on quite well, no her carnucles have not been bloody, and she still lays every now and then as its spring here, i get her out the coop multiple times a day and even when i offer her food she doesnt always eat is, she also drinks a lot of water everytike she comes out, drinks for a good 5 mins each time

Have you noticed her poop consistency or color change at all?
Do you have to worm your chickens?
is coccidiosis a problem in your part of the world?
What do you feed your birds?
If my Muscovy didn't eat I'd be concerned. But Mine are the most broody things ever.

Her feces have changed a little but everyone was wormed 1 week ago so cant be worms, i dont know if coccidosis is a problem in Australia, they are on a layer feed thats shes been on since going off duck grower 10 months ago, i am concerned as she nor.ally loves feed

Are you positive she isn't broody? I'm currently dealing with a broody muscovy (it seems like that is more often than not). She is always in the chciken coop with or eggs or without eggs. She only has chicken eggs to sit on and those are sporadic at best. So sometimes she is not sitting on any eggs. And at this time, they are not fertilized so her efforts are mute.
I remove her every morning and afternoon to dissuade her. But, when she does come out she will drink and eat. However, it's not like her normal appetite. She also will have a real broody poo. 🤢 This will go in for weeks or until she gives up or I totally lock her out.
Caruncles can change depending on if they are laying or not or even if they are molting. My drake is currently molting and his caruncles are orange.
Your muscovy's caruncles look good and healthy. Her eyes look good. So it's really hard to say what can be going on.
Do you have other muscovy? Since its spring in your location my guess is that she is broody.

The drinking of water but not eating as much is another sign tha points to her being broody. Does she walk around all puffed and peeping?
