Hen very lethargic and has a pasty vent - what should I do?

How old is she and does she lay eggs? Is her vent stopped up, or can you clean it off, and insert a gloved finger inside the vent to feel for an obstruction? Could she have a stuck egg? If it is very cold, poop can freeze onto the vent. If possible, if she seems strong enough, you could bring her inside where it is warm, and give her a shallow soak in warm soapy water or Epsom salts cleaning her vent. Trim any excess fluff. If she is very weak, a bath could put her over the edge, and in that case, just pull off what you can, and trim away any fluff. I would try to get her drinking water and electrolytes, such as 2 ml of Poultry NutriDrench or Gatorade, sugar water, etc.
