I'm a newbie! I have 5 Black Copper Marans hens that are almost 20 weeks old. None have laid their first egg and have all been very healthy in both coop and free to roam the yard. Yesterday, my one hen, Dottie, started acting differently than the others. These are her symptoms: keeping one eye closed more than open; resting more than the others; eating and drinking just a tiny bit; losing quite a bit of fluff feathers wherever she laid, but not today; diarrhea-like stool.
I have done the following: inserted lubricated gloved finger in top hole in her bum to feel for broken eggshell-nothing; soaked her bottom in warm water; tried to cool her down keeping her inside garage for a little while. Today, I'm keeping her in the coop as I'm afraid my beagle will sense her being "down" and go after her.
Can anyone help me, please? I'm really very concerned about her. Thank you.

Hey - welcome to BYC - sorry about your sick chicks. Wish I could help. Listen - repost what you wrote up above on the forum on emergencies, diseases, and injuries and cures - you'll get more and faster responses! Good luck and I hope they are okay!!

Thank you. I wasn't sure if that was allowed. Also, maybe behavior and egglaying?

Hello and welcome to BYC! So sorry about your hen. I'd start off by giving her polyvisol vitamins without iron. They are infant vitamins sold at several stores. I personally would keep her away from the flock to make sure she doesn't spread the illness. I don't know if antibiotics are necessary, but if you give them, she will need a probiotic(I use probios). I wish I could help you more. Good luck.

Could it be egg yolk peritonitis? My EE just had it and I don't think there was any egg shell in there that could have been felt. No way to find out other than a vet visit, I don't think. They drained her abdomen and put her on antibiotics. She survived - so far.
