Have you been able to get the calcium into her and hydrate her with fluids? The only thing I have gotten her to eat today is some lettuce. After she ate a couple pieces, she turned around and fell asleep.
Hello, sorry for such a late update. She seems to be doing better after TLC and syringe feeding her some warm chicken broth mixed with chick feed, oregano, ACV, garlic, basil, thyme, cinammon, etc.Have you been able to get the calcium into her and hydrate her with fluids?
Looks like she's not doing well at all and you may lose her.
I'm glad she's getting better.Hello, sorry for such a late update. She seems to be doing better after TLC and syringe feeding her some warm chicken broth mixed with chick feed, oregano, ACV, garlic, basil, thyme, cinammon, etc.
I have 3 more sick birds inside showing respiratory distress. 2 are over a year old and molting, both hens. The other one is a roo, less than a year old, not molting. Those 3 are gurling and wheezing. But they have a slight appetite for dry chick feed.
I am thinking the birds are suffering from respiratory issues and malnourishment from their lack of appetite. And I believe the respirstory issues are from cold stress. All of this started happening the morning after we had a cold night with a big storm and LOTS of wind (ripped part of the roof off the run. Not the coop though) and the next morning there was very cold and wet wind blowing hard, even my nose was blocking up.
That was the morning the Legbar was found laying limp on the perch. The rooster seemed to be off around there, same with one of the older hens. Then the day after I decided to take the others in, and that was when I noticed the other older hen acting the same. And she started molting hard after I got her inside.
We have been having nights in the 30s, with days reaching the 70s.
I may treat my whole flock for respiratory issues. There are a couple young hens acting off as well in the flock. But if they got sick after everyone was quarantined, around a day after, then the others are likely exposed and just not exhibiting the symptoms. Most of them like to sleep in a huddle at night because of the cold.
Yes, I repaired it the same morning! And it was the run, the coop was intact.I'm glad she's getting better.
Sorry to hear the others are having problems.
Could be something was stirred up by the storm and/or dampness.
Since most all are having issues, I'd consider giving them all a round of Tylosin to see if that makes a difference.
Have you been able to get the coop repaired? If not, can you move them to a warmer area like a garage or basement to see if that helps? Perhaps provide a lamp or brooder/coop heat panel to give off a bit more warmth. Sick birds can often struggle to regulate body temperature, so giving them some extra heat to get through this and recover may be a good idea.
