I have a speckled Sussex named Salem and she’s usually my most enthusiastic and friendly girl. Today she just seems glum. Not necessarily lethargic, but not as active as normal. She did have a very poopy butt so I got her cleaned up. Her vent looked fine, her tummy and vent felt normal (did some comparisons with my other ladies). Crop is a bit full but she’s been snacking and doing stuff all day. Not sure if I should helicopter mom her, or if she’s just having an off day. (Ignore our yard, we’re in the middle of redoing our chicken yard)

How old is she? Does she lay eggs? Is she separating herself? Check her crop first thing in the morning before she eats or drinks, when her crop should feel empty and flat. Will she then eat for you after the crop check?
