I posted on the chicken forum a few days ago, not realizing there was a duck forum.. I have two ducks, a chocolate Indian runner and this black one (not sure what she is). The Indian runner (Howard) is 1 yr 7 months and this black one (Bob Ross) is 7 months. Bob has never laid an egg. They free range around my property, no other ducks around. They put themselves to bed in their duck house at night and we secure it. Anyhow, Thursday mid day Bob is suddenly not with Howard (they are always together) and Howard is freaking out, quacking after us. Can't find her anywhere.. Saturday rolls around and I see her waddling ( not a normal gait) across the back yard. There is a lot of things she could have been hiding under. I pick her up, check for an injury, I can't find one. Bring her in the house and something just isn't right, her gait is off, she's not acting like herself, tail way down low. Google is my friend, Google thinks there might be an egg stuck. I give her calcium supplements, warm baths, messages.. Nothing. Sunday she will stand with water in the tub, but that's the only time. Food and liquid intake poor. I get vitamin supplements, electrolytes, today she is trying to move more.. But its not good. Her feet look curled up (dehydration or back of use?) I work, but have someone checking on her. She can pedal her feet around in a bathtub, but not standing. (yesterday she was standing in water and if I put my hand under one foot she would near weight on the other and stay standing). Howard is fine. I made a "sick bed" for her tonight after seeing another members picture of one for their chicken. She has holes for her feet to go through and she was drinking on her own with this set up. Only, how long should I leave her In it? Will it be better or worse for her circulation? She looks comfortable.. More so than laying down, but I took her out for the night and am unsure if I should put her in this setup before I go to work in the morning? Any ideas on what is wrong with her? Its day 6 tomorrow.. Her tail is not down like the picture in the tub, that was two days ago.. She looks a little better today in some ways and worse in others.

When my duck first started laying it disappeared and came back later. I believe it was around laying time and she was a little sluggish the day before and after but didn’t last longer than a day. Has she layed her egg yet? Or have you checked to see if you feel an egg? I don’t think that’s the problem but it may be. Perhaps post a video of her gait if possible.

I tied posting a video but unable to load it, I had trouble tying to do it through YouTube as well. She is no longer walking. Someone moved her from the little area we have her to the "sick bed" about every hour today. I do not know if that's necessary, but I was worried about circulation. She drank well on her own today and looks a little better, but not bearing weight (though she will paddle feet in the water and stays afloat just fine). She sounded like she tried to quack at me tonight.. First time she's made a noise since I brought Her in on saturday. Her feet look better tonight and she was placing them flat out instead of curled under when she did try standing. I think she seems more comfortable tonight, tail is no longer down and she is still pooping ( though it's not formed, but she is not real interested in food, it is available to her, but I'm not pushing it on her). I am not super familiar with ducks, so I have another question. She drank a lot, her crop was full of fluid. I sat her on her feet after her bath and she didn't top sideways, but forward. She caught herself with her beak and water started coming out of her mouth and nostrils. It almost smells like spoiled milk.. Sweet.. Like breast Fed newborn baby poop smell.., clear. Is that normal with a crop full of water or a possible obstruction? I checked before and did not feel anything in her crop, but I'm a novice duck parent..

I don’t believe ducks actually have crops, just a widen esophagus. Someone correct me if I am mistaken. Sounds like an obstruction could be a possibility... You said she has access to food at all times, does she to water as well?

Ducks have a rudimentary crop. It looks like the one on the left:
