Ok.. This might be a stupid question but I don't want to overlook/ignore something that could hurt my girl...

Yesterday morning I went down to check on the chickens because I noticed my Buff Orpington had been in the nesting box for a while. I opened the nesting box and she was sitting in there with a small cut on her comb and a little bit of dried blood. She has injured her comb before, much worst than this, and the isolation from the flock was terrible for her. I cleaned her up and since no one was bothering her and the blood was dry I left her there. I came back to check on her and she was still in the box. I had to push her out of it to go out into the yard.

Today she is doing the same thing. I literally had to put her in the yard and close up the coop so she would get out of the nesting box. She wouldn't go far from the coop and when ever I or another chicken went up to her she would fluff up her feathers, hang her wings down slightly and make this low deep cluck. When the other chickens finally starting resting under a tree she went and joined them but was laying a foot or two away from them and at one point she was actually laying under the nesting box outside of the coop (since the box hangs outside of the coop)

She is eating and drinking fine. When I picked her up to bring her into the yard I sat her down in front of a giant beetle and she went right after it.

I've check her for mites and found nothing

Her poop looks normal but she has a little on her butt feather from sitting in the box. Her vent is clean/clear

Her comb is bright red and her eyes are clear.

She is panting a little but she has been in the hen house which can be warm when it is warm outside

There are times that she isn't holding her wings up to her side. She is letting them hang a little.

she's went broody or beginning to go broody. My hen did this when she started to go broody and when she went broody she would sit there like she was dead. She would sit there with her eyes open barely blinking. I would open the lid above the nest boxes and kinda take my hand and nudge on her kind of oushing her and shed just sit there. Your hen is telling you she wants to be a mother. Nothing to worry about. If you let her continue this you'll have babies in about 3 weeks. lol

We don't have a roster... So no babies. I always knew she would be my broody hen. It fits her personality. We thought about getting a roster next year and letting her hatch some eggs. I'm glad to hear it's not something else.

if there's no rooster you need to remove the eggs and put a big rock in her nest. (I put a rock in my hens nest because she made it under the roost. Her nest was getting pretty nasty) just put a descent size rock in her nest and she'll go un-broody.
