sick peep & dead peep

New chicks should not be getting egg shells or anything else other than their crumbles. Some boiled egg is okay (I have never heard of feeding raw egg), or some plain unflavored yogurt (mix it in some crumbles), but nothing else. Those other things require grit to be digested. They are simply too young for that. No treats ... no strawberries, celery, tomatoe, or anything. Certainly no egg shells. They do not need to be on any medication, like Tetracycline. That is an antibiotic for illness, which they do not have. Medicated crumbles is great. Medicated feed just has amprolium in it which is a thiamine blocker that helps inhibit the growth for cocci in chicks. Read the tag on the bag of feed to be sure it is medicated with amprolium, and nothing else. If anything in the water .... use organic (unfiltered) Apple Cider Vinegar (1 tsp per gallon of water). Fresh clean water is very important.

Good luck with your new chicks.

ETA: What about your heat source .... Is there an area where they can move out of the heat, to cool off? Maybe they are too hot. It works well to have one end with the heat, and the other end without. They will move in and out as they want.
