Hey guys,

I have been wanting to get on here for a while and my reason for finally jumping on is not so good...

I have a few quail I hatched and raised and I found one today acting a bit funny. He has a blurry eye, is walking in circles, and turns his head to the side.

I have put him in isolation, cleaned all the food and water containers, and the cage itself.

I had a rabbit do something like this and the vet said it was a bacterial infection spreading to the brain. Do you think thats whats going on with him?

I am hopping the opinion is that he hurt himself rather than has a possible contagious infection. (not that I want him to be hurt at all its just better for the flock) I also have other chickens and turkeys etc.

What do you all suggest my best course of action is?

The turkeys get 30% game bird and the chickens mostly free range with a mix of 22% meat bird and 16% egg layer for the hens.

The Quail get the same as the chickens. They do not intermingle.
I give the quail more of the egg layer crumble. I have two dishes for that and one dish filled with meat bird. Nutrina is the brand. I get it from TSC

This is my first year with quail. Is it the feed??? I was informed by the breeder chicken feed was fine.

I keep them in a 8x3 wood frame/wire enclosure. I use a mixture of wood chips and hand cut/dried grass. Next year I am going to do a large flight run and increase my quail flock to give them more of a free range feel.

No quail any breed are gamebirds and should be fed gamebird feed. You can mix it with layer pellets. Then switch from layer pellets to cracked corn in the cold months.I am not saying that is the problem, but they should be on a gamebird feed.
