We have a 6 month old Buff Orpington Rooster, this week he is lethargic, breathing heavy, not eating. Noticed tar like spots on his comb. Thought maybe he had cocciodosis (sp?) . Bought antibiotics at feed store, he has drank a few dropper fulls. Any advice?

Try keeping him hydrated and make sure he at least eats something. I don't know about the black tar. His body could be trying to discharge any chemicals or fluids. Hope he gets better.

What antibiotics are you using, and at what dosage? Be aware that antibiotics do not help with Cocci, if that is what you are worried about. Does he have any other symptoms at all?

Keeping him hydrated and as stress-free as possible are the best things for him right now, without knowing more. Keep him warm, if it is very cold where you are. Try offering him things that most chickens go wild for-- some cooked eggs, mealworms if you have them, feed mixed with warm (plain) oatmeal, etc. Will he eat anything at all?

Have him separated in the garage. Wont eat. Made 9tsp of Duramycin mixed in 3 gallons water. Feeding it to him. He will open his mouth for the syringe. Gave some to the flock too. No one else acting weird. Its been in the 30s at night.

He has watery, yellowish poop.

If he at eaten white potatoes or avocados. ...could that have made him sick. ...there is a chance both those things were in our compost
