Recently purchased some random bantams at Tractor supply and now that they are larger one of ten has suddenly become a little off kilter. The chicks are 4 weeks old, the bird in question is a sebright but currently lives with a silkie, a trio of dearded belgians, 3 old english game birds and 2 other sebrights. All are about same age and size. Home is currently a large box with newspaper lining and pine shavings on top of that (coop is in the process and should be done within the week, assuming we don't get more rain). They all got electrolyte water for the first few days, medicated chick feed for two weeks or so and now chick starter feed. Fresh water and feed daily. The sebright in question seems to be having trouble with balance and seems a bit wobbly. Had good strength in toes late last night when we first noticed the behavior and would cling to a finger , but still seemed to have balance issues and now seems to simply be sitting still. We seperated him (definitely a him) from the others and gave him food and water and he has been eating and drinking regularly. I looked through the book I have (storey's) and from the descriptions there I'd guess marek's or botulism. We try to keep their area clean, but it's entirely possible he could have eaten droppings. Another thought I had was maybe he ate newsprint? They are scratching around a lot and exposing newsprint, but I didn't notice and torn up. Last idea I had was the possibility he just wasn't eating enough as he lets others eat first. Nobody else is showing any similar symptoms. The book suggested molasses in the water as possible help for poisoning, but only for adults and not chicks. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!
