My favorite 5 month old cockerel (of course) was laying with his head on the floor of the coop this morning, not flat, like he was sleeping, but with his head sideways on the ground. I picked him up. He was weak and lethargic. His eyes look normal, no nasal discharge, no cough or sniffle. He was breathing fast and hard. It was quite warm already (70 degrees and sunny) when it's been pretty cold lately. '
I moved him outside in the shade, so if he was just overheated he could cool off a bit. He would pick his head up and look at me, but not eat, drink or stand. I offered scrambled eggs and yogurt and he showed no interest, leading his head loll down into the bowl.
We have had Blackhead in our young turkeys and this does look a bit like it. His droppings are white & watery with some bright yellow chunks.
Any ideas? I did give him a (off label) med I used on my turkeys for blackhead, figuring it can't hurt at this point
I figure I'll loose him, but I'll try anything I can to save him. My profile pic is of this boy
