Hello,

I'm new here but have often read posts to try and educate myself and help solve general problems with my hens but this time I'm stuck. The problem is I think one of Warren hens is sick.

I'll try and recollect what has been happening.

1. Her name is Darcy, she is a Warren and is 14 months old. Darcy has always been a good layer.
2. One afternoon Darcy eat a lot of worms, I uncovered an untouched patch in the garden and she eat most of them, along with my other Warren, called Nancy who generally seems fine and is laying every other day.
3. I think she also had a sour crop before worming her (possible all the worms she eat), bringing up liquid when she drank but that's okay now.
4. A few days later she started opening her mouth wide and nothing came out, shaking her head and feathers. I bought Flubenvet and I'm half way through worming her but it doesn't seem to be making a great impact. Still opening her mouth etc.
5. Several days after she eat the worms she stopped laying and only laid an egg today, where she was egg-bound, couldn't walk, siting on the ground trying to lay, rolling her eyes around and quiet noises. I got a bucket of warm water kept her in there and she laid an egg an hour later. The walking picked up, but however she doesn't seem to be eating pellets or drinking now. She is scratching round but also dozing on and off.
6. In between this she has been broody for several days but I managed to nip that in the bud.

The overall timescale of this is a week and half now, since she eat the worms and all of this started.

Any suggestions, help or ideas of what to do?

Thank you.

I'm not familiar with Flubenvet. However, I would recommend that you do a search on gapeworm. I do believe that Ivermectin is the wormer of choice for that. Good luck with your hen.
