1) What type of bird , age and weight. Delaware rooster about 5 weeks. I don't have a way to weigh the little guy
2) What is the behavior, exactly. flat on his sides, legs stiff, breathing well, no head or neck control. I lost an older Delaware roo to the same symptoms about a month ago
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? this evening
4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. no
5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. all were fine earlier today. Found this little guy like this when I went to lock up for the night.
6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. He was in with 30 other chicks...they have water in a 3 gallon galvanized water can and free choice chick grower
7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary
8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? none
9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? do not know of a vet in the area that treats avian so will be caring for on my own
10) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
11) Describe the housing/bedding in use pine shavings they are in a 10x10 out door run that is under a cover so they are shaded, and they can go inside into a smaller kennel...they are locked in at night. This is a very nice dog kennel facilty converted into a chicken palace.

maybe mareks? I dunno, I am going through a lot too like that. Someone just posted a cure about Mareks I am gonna try tomorrow to buy it and see if it helps. I have tried everything else under the sun.

I hope someone else can help you, I have had my birds for 3 years and I am still learning things everyday.

Good luck!

yes chillin there is so much to learn! My aunt had chickens when I was a kid and that is where I got my love of them...but she never had these problems or worries...but then that was 20-30 years ago and times have changed and there is more knowledge out there.

hopefully one of these vets are near you, or you can call and ask one. These vets were all listed by BYC members

We used Deramycn (sp) when our chicks were young and struggling and it was a life saver...literally. We only wish we had heard of it sooner. Its an antibiotic you can purchase at Tractor Supply. They pepped right back up!

He is gone. Adora thank you for those numbers. None of them are local for me but they are close enough in an emergency they will be useful. None of our local vets do birds. I am still learning my way around this site and all the info available on it, it can kind of be sensory over load at times!

We have suffered heavy losses this year with our chicks and I just want it to stop.
