Silicone for sealing/insulating electrical?

I'm working in my coolerbator, I've got it pretty much done but I need to secure the light sockets and insulate the contacts on the back. I have a toddler and I don't want to risk him touching them. I've heard some people use silicone but I read it can corrode the metal. Is they're another sealant that would work better?
