Do Silkie and Cochins lay year round?

It seems that out egg production has dropped off.

Yes they will, but that depends on the lighting. Chickens need appx 14 hours of daylight for egglaying. Artificial light counts too, so during the winter months, when the days are shorter, if you still want those eggs, you can just light your coops.

I turn the light on at 7am, just before I leave work, and then I turn it off around 8:30 or 9:00 pm each day. I'm getting plenty of eggs. Here in Ohio, it's dark in the morning now, and it is starting to get dark around 7pm. Next week, when we change the time for daylight savings, it'll be dark around 6pm. (Boy I wish they'd leave the time along...)

Take care,
Sharon
