Silkie Breeders: Toes?

No, but it does mean ALL of the offspring will CARRY that gene. And that gene will continue to propagate as you breed.
Hidden genes and genetic 'surprises' aren't something I want in our line so I cull HARD. That's just my humble opinion.

I value your opinion too. I learn something new everyday

Since, I can no longer keep very many, I would cull because of that, because I only want to keep my very best.

Thats what I was thinking too. I imagine its the same for single combs also, which again, I would never breed.

Toes bother ME. If they have more or less than 5 I don't use them. Duck foot...haven't had one yet, but definitely wouldn't use it. Toes that are severely webbed, nope!

I do look for all the other great qualities of a bird first, but if it has any of the above, I still won't use it.

Because I have to see things for myself I'm not hesitant to use a bird with a short toe or with toes that have the fourth and fifth crowding each other. I can say without hesitation that using a bird with less than pristine toes with one that has good toes produces babies with mostly very nice feet.

Would I use one that has four toes on both feet? No. Would I use one with four on one and five on the other? Probably. Just to see for myself what happens.
