Silkie Breeding

Hi, I’m considering to begin breeding Silkie chickens, but have a few inquiries for experienced breeders first.

1. What is the best breeding method for Silkies: incubating or allowing the mother to hatch and raise?

2. Would 7 females to 1 male work in breeding Silkies?

3. Could they be raised and bred successfully in a chicken coop with a small outdoor run?

#1 silkies are usually very good mothers, so if you have a broody hen, you could definitely try to let her raise them.

#2 yes, unless you want specific color crosses and they are all different colors.

#3 Yes, they can.
