Silkie Breeding

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone could explain silkie breeding. Silly topic i know. But im new to breeding silkies.

Was wanting information on when to pair off pullets and cockerels. For how long do pullets and cockerels stay in the same pen. When will the hen start laying fertile eggs and for how long.

I'm from australia.

So the shows that im interested in attending would be in jan, march, may, june, aug and october.

How do you plan breeding around this. From pairing off selected stock, to hatching, selecting quality chicks, raising and having a pullet/cockerel to show for the coming season the next year.

I put 4 - 8 hens in with a young rooster and nature does the rest! I breed all year round so they all stay together at all times, I don't break out and breed specifics, i.e. this hen to that roo.
