I am getting 6 silkie bantam chicks from mpc on the 19th. My brooder is a 42'in long ,20'in wide, and 18'in tall tub. It has a heat lamp on each side because they are both very low wattage. It is in my room which is off limits to the dogs and the cat. I am not worried about anything happening to them one they are flightless and two i have probably been talking about them non-stop and we are guessing that I will be basically a chicken hawk and not let them out of my sight. The only thing I am am wondering is, is the tub high enough to keep them in we have a top that we will put on when we are not home. Here's a pic (p.s. we haven't put the sand down yet at the bottom of the brooder and will soon.)

I really don't know. Because of the silkie type feathering etc. they are not much for flying but, can really jump high. If you put a wire top on your brooder that will keep them in & you'll still be able to see them. For the absolute word on silkies, behaviors etc. put Silkie thread in the search box and you'll get a choice of a few. Most of the dedicated silkie threads are by color ie, Buff Silkies, Black silkies, Patridge, etc.
