When you cross a silkie with another bird do the offspring always have silkie feathers?? Or does it have to be a silkie rooster with a smoothed feathered hen to get silkie feathered offspring or does it have to be a silkie hen with a smoothed feathered rooster to get silkie feathered offspring, or either way is it half and half?? Thanks!!

Silkie feathering is recessive. When crossed with a normal feather bird, regardless of which parents is "silkied", then the offspring will have normal feathering, but will be heterzygous for it. They will appear normal feathered, but will carry the silkie feathering. If you were to cross two of these heterzygous birds with each other then, in general, 25% will be complete normal feathered, 50% will be heterzygous, and 25% will be Silkie.

I hope that made sense
