I have a silkie hen who's not sitting on her eggs. She's about one year old, and lays 2-4 eggs per week. I've made her a nest of pine shavings, and has 4 eggs in it(one added by me). I've always heard silkies were broody, but this one is not. Suggestions?

You can't make a hen go broody. Either she will or she won't. There are always some individuals that won't fit the mold, so she may not be the broody type.

I've been hatching her eggs in my incubator, and they're doing well, so I'll just keep hatching them myself. I have a few other hens that aren't quite breeding age, maybe I'll have better luck with them.

Went to feed up this evening and she was sitting on the eggs. She didn't get up when I fed the others, so I guess I have my answer. She did it when she was ready, not when I was.
