Silkie hen or roo

2 buff. First is satin smooth and second is satin frizzle. Hen or roo? Thanks!

How old are they? Both look female to me, but silkies and silkie crosses can be tricky.

Yeah they both look like hens.
But it's kinda tricky to tell.

The very first picture is certainly a pullet- this is the smooth. I'd say 80-90%

The 'frizzle' silkie... looks currently like a pullet.. but... I'd put my certainty at a lessor percent.

Because of the frizzle- there won't be any sort of feather tells you are 'used to' looking for.

Forget the 'saddle feathers' as all the feathering will have this -plus the silkie undercoat! Plus, this one just isn't going to have as full a poof as the smooth coated one- the frizzle just doesn't lend itself to that kind of plumage!

But boy, either way, this is going to be an adorable chicken!

Keep an eye on streamer development, wattles, and any pinking of the comb.
