I have a Silkie hen (Pucci) that is now 1 that I raised from birth. She has always been aggressive to other silkie hens. I had to rehome my other rescued silkie hen because she was constantly attacked by this hen. When she became broody, we purchased fertilized eggs and let her hatch them thinking she would be fine with chicks she raised. She had 3 (2 pullets and 1 roo) and she was an amazing mother to all 3! The chicks are now 12 weeks old and she has become extremely aggressive to the 2 pullets and viciously attacks them. She LOVES the roo though. Normally they free range and are fine because the pullets can distance themselves but when they are in the coop together (when it rains or I need to contain them), Pucci goes postal on them. There is no where they can hide. She searches them out and attacks. The pullets are terrified of her and if I don't separate them, I am pretty sure she would kill them. Is there any hope for Pucci? I absolutely love her but I am at my wits end and don't know what to do. Please help!

Is there any way you could seperate her for a while for the little ones to get a little bigger. An idea would be to put her in a dog kennel crate with them she can see them but not get to them. Sometimes that works with roos for an attitude adjustment.

I do separate her from the babies if I have to coop them up during the day. I put her in another coop by herself. I will get a small cage that I can put in the silkie coop when the need arises to lock them up. The babies stress when they can't see her, especially the roo. I tried putting her in the adjacent run with the Wyandottes (only a fence has separated them for months so they are familiar with her) but she was in real danger there. They tried to gang up on her. I guess she got a taste of her own medicine but I won't try that again. I was just hoping someone has a new idea that I haven't tried.
