This baby is 17 weeks 1 day old. For the longest we saw all the signs leading to pullet. All of a sudden these wattles blew up and the comb started raising (within the last 2 weeks). We've also noticed pointier hackles and saddle feathers.

This is, however, my first time raising chickens. Please give me your most educated and experienced guesses.

At 17 weeks I would guess pullet with a small comb like that. She isn’t bearded so it can be normal for her to have wattles. Maybe she is approaching the point of lay and that is why she is maturing. If you want to take photos of the comb/head straight on, and some standing side photos that may help.

I truly hope you are right. With how pointed those saddle feathers and her neck feathers are though, you still believe Pullet?

For some more background on her, she came into our flock at a werk old (all the chickens are the same age). As soon as she got there she was bossing the other chicks around, took no bs from any of them, even though she came in the size the others were at 3 days old.

To this days she will stand up to and boss the other chickens around. Her name is Sassy and definitely fits it.

Does her comb look very wide and/or bumpy if you look at it from the front?

I'm a newbie, but I voted cockerel as well! I think with that big walnut comb it is. I've read silkies are really hard to tell though..
