Im currently incubating eggs. Yay! My roo is a standard white silkie and I've placed eggs from my Easter egger, golden laced Polish and buff orp in the brooder. What color eggs will the female offspring lay?

I know the Polish/silkie will be white and I'm sure curious to see what that combo yields! I'm sure it will be a unique looking bird. The buff lays a pink colored egg and the EE lays a green egg. Any ideas or experience on what the next gen will lay or look like?

If anyone has any photos of these combos or similar combos, please share and tell who the parents are! Thanks!

Egg color comes from shell color and then a tinted coating. Egg shells can only be blue or white. Blue is dominant so white shelled eggs come from tow recessives. The EE likely has two blue dominant genes so all of that combo will have blue egg shells. The brown tint will darker and lighter depending on what is inherited. There are a lot more brown tint genes so it is very hard to tell what you will get.

You will have white, green maybe blue and brown eggs. You might even get some almost purple eggs because it the rose color in the one hen.

So, I put it to the test and had 4 healthy baby chicks hatch yesterday! I will post below a pic of Mom and Dad and then the babies! I'll update later when they're older and start laying. I'm so excited to see the egg color. All of the babies have Dad's extra toe.
