Well my daughters beloved lil silkie turned out to be a roo so we cannot keep him . I found him a new home no problem and now she wants a new one but I have no idea how to add a new chic to our flock(3) of hens! Should I raise a new chick, or get a older hen? And how can I tell if they are healthy? Any advice is appreciated lol I'm new to this

As has been mentioned it would be a great advantage to all the flock if you purchase two. I'd try getting them the same age as your existing flock if possible. It's a good idea to keep them quarantined away from the others for a period of 30 days to check for any signs of infection and or diseases. Once time is up I'd move them in with the other chickens but in a separate cage until the others get use to them being around. Maybe a week or two or until you see the others not paying that much attention to them. I'd then release them but keep a close eye out for awhile.

Ok so I just went to the swap meet and now have 2 silkies and a Japanese black tail in quarantine ! I might be addicted lol, thanks for all the help!

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. I love how chicken math gets to everyone. One bird needed + two birds being suggested ends in bringing home three. :lau
