I have a 4 month old silkie. Have no idea its gender. Im leaning towards a roo, but i could be wrong. He has no beard or puff on his head, 5 toes, black skin.

This bird is so far off the SOP standards for a Silkie that I'm thinking it's a Silkie mix, and it does look like a cockerel.

Thank you so much! I've been beating My head over this for months. He is very sweet, he acts like a baby around the mother hen and her chicks. He likes to sleep with her in her nest. So I was confused he was trying to copy my mama hen lol

Roosters will often sit in nests to encourage hens to lay eggs there :)

I did not know that. My other rooster is a jerk, but he protects his ladies and gives them food. Ever since she had her chicks, my older rooster has been over protective.

My silkie rooster "helps" the momma hens brood chicks also. My silkies have roosted in the past, but with this last batch of chicks the momma (bantam cochin) has gone back to roosting but the silkies in the pen are still sleeping in a puppy pile on the floor with the 2 month old chicks

I love Silkie piles! :love
