Hens went broody with 8 red star eggs. I have Silkie roosters, one hatched.
What might it look like? Would Silkiness overcome regular feathers?

What color is the silkie rooster? Red stars are red sex links and carry dominant white. Guessing from my own experience in crossing red sex links with other breeds, you will get white chicks. Hope this helps. Let us know your outcome.

We recently hatched 7 chicks from a White Silkie Roo and Red Star Hens and got a very interesting mix.
6 out of 7 had feathered feet, some have black skin, 6 of them have 5 toes on each foot (last one has 5 toes on one foot, 4 on the other). Now that they have feathered out (6 weeks old) 2 are a beautiful creamy white, 4 have the red/white feathering and the last one.. I can not explain where it got it's color from as it is a crazy white/black/red combo.
Here are some photos for you.

The Mom's and Dad

2 chicks on left are now creamy white, 3 in center are red/white and the last one we call
"Special" because of it's odd coloring and I had to assit it's hatch after being stuck inside the egg
for nearly 3 days.

The 4 Reds we gave away (4 weeks old)

We kept"Special" (above) that's the one on the far right
that looks like the chipmunk in the chicks photo above.

We also kept "Tequila" (one of the bottom right in chicks picture above)
We are keeping are fingers crossed
that they are hens! So far we aren't sure, but it looks good.

What a cool cross cluckeminn its great I'm a bid red stars fan and that's cool, you incouraged me to buy a silkie hen or roo!! ;)

Thanks Mjad! Yes, do try some cross breeding. It is interesting to see what you end up with at hatch.

Sadly we lost Tequila yesterday.. 2 weeks ago (10 weeks old) she all of a sudden developed splayed legs. I tried my best to "fix" her.. taping her legs, making braces etc.. but it just didn't help. She couldn't get in our out of the coop or get to food/water on her own. Her spirits were good, but it's not a good life for a chicken. I knew what had to be done, but couldn't do it myself and my husband could't do it, so I had a friend who also has chickens come and pick her up and take her away. I got a call later that "it was done".

"Special" on the other hand is awesome. My 4 yr old daugher treats her like baby. Takes her on the swings with her, slides down the slide.. carries her everywhere. The little thing even rides around in a wagon when she is pulling. I hope she stays that loveable .
