Hello,

Newbie here 👋

We have a wild chick we found two days ago. I’d like to get more chickens. I found someone nearby who sells silkies. Should I be concerned at all about two different breeds getting along as chicks?

Thank you!!

Photo of our current chick.

The only thing I would worry about is that the 'wild' chick might have something to which the silkies have no immunity.

Ah, good thought. What would I do then? I would like to add more chickens as our plan was to have egg layers. Then we found this baby chick and my boys wanted to keep her.

I’m curious how you found a wild chick. A chick that young couldn’t have been too far from the mama hen.
We were at the beach and saw a dog chase a Mama with her chicks (I’m not sure how many she had). My friends son saw the baby chick alone on the road with cars coming. He picked her up and looked for the mama hen but couldn’t find her. We all waited around for awhile but she didn’t come back. We thought we found her and let the chick go thinking we had found it’s mother but that chicken ran away as fast as it could. At that point another car was coming down the road and the chick was just standing there. Made the decision to bring her home. 😔

Where we live, there are tons of wild chickens who roam the island and plenty dogs that kill them. This chick wouldn’t stand a chance in her own.
