Hello,

I have a 8 month old silkie who I’m assuming has coccidiosis because she has lost a TON of weight despite her constantly eating and her crop always being full when I hold her.

I originally assumed it was just parasites because I hadn’t noticed blood in her poop. So, a month and a half ago I tried treating her with Moxivet because it said it was a one day treatment and it lasts 3 months. She continued to lose weight but I didn’t think I could treat her so soon since the other medicine is supposed to last 3 months.

Last week she started standing hunched over like my previous silkie did close to when he died from parasites. So, I’ve been treating her with Aquasol for 4 days. Yesterday, I noticed something red in her poop but it looked like jelly so I wasn’t sure if it was blood. I noticed again today and I think it’s blood.

She is VERY frail so I am afraid to start the Corrid right now (as I have heard it is really hard on silkies) and have her on that for another 5 days without giving her a break and giving her pre/probiotics and vitamins.

Should I start the corrid now anyways or give her a break in between?

Start the corid, it's just a thiamine inhibitor. Do not give any vitamins during treatment.
B Vitamins make coccidiosis worse.

Welcome to BYC. Aquasol (low dose fenbendazole) can treat roundworms in chickens, but not the other possible worms, such as capillary, gapeworms, and tapeworms.) A vet could do a fecal float on some fresh droppings to look for worm eggs and coccidiosis if you can check with yours. Do you have any pictures of her or her droppings? How does her crop feel early in the morning before she eats and drinks? It should feel empty and flat. Give the maximum dosage of Corid. That is 2 tsp of the liquid Corid or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Has she laid any eggs recently?

She laid the day before yesterday and like the 4 days prior. One day she even laid 2. But her comb is starting to get pale. I’m worried about her nutrients. I’ve been feeding her eggs every night and cucumber or pumpkin (I had some still fresh from October) during the day to try and give her extra food. I give her 20% protein food during the day and the hen food in the morning and night. And oyster shells for extra calcium.

I’ll go get a picture of her droppings.

I forgot to answer the question about the crop. Her crop is empty in the morning

Can you get a photo of her?

Have all of her eggs been a normal hard shelled egg or has she been struggling?
With her being hunched up and even laying 2 eggs in one day, I'd begin giving her Extra Calcium.
You can find Calcium Citrate+D3 at Walmart, CVS, etc. Give her 1 tablet Daily for 5 days, see if this helps regulate the production.

You've inspected her vent for any prolapse or injury correct?

I don't think it will hurt to give the Corid. I agree, if possible, get a fecal float.

She only laid the 2 eggs the one day. The shells are hard. She does take longer and struggle to lay the eggs lately. I do give her the oyster shells for extra calcium, currently. I will get those tabs as well.

I can’t get any time off work to get the fecal test 😭😭😭 but she is exhibiting the same symptoms my last bird did when he had parasites in August right before he died 😭

I started the corrid last night. She is so weak though, I don’t think she has drank anything. I’ll have to give it to her by mouth on my break. I gave her some eggs this morning. She only took a few bites. I’m so worried
