Silkies and Corrid

How do I give her these tablets? Dissolve them in water and give them to her with a syringe?
Did you see the videos in post 12? Those show how to open the beak and just have her swallow the pills. The pills are given whole or in half, but since chickens can swallow large things like a mouse, they can swallow a pill.I would get the riboflavin now. B complex has riboflavin, too, but it also has thiamine which is not given during Corid. As long as she is eating feed after the Corid, she should not need the B complex, and that will save some money. However, B complex is a good thing to have around, and it is good for people as well.

The only thing I can get her to eat is scrambled eggs twice a day. And that was actually a struggle tonight... I’m not even sure she is drinking the water, which has the Corrid in it. I’m going have to syringe some water to her, which I’m scared to do because I don’t want it to go in her wind pipe. I did watch the videos. I’m going to do my best. I’ll get the riboflavin and B complex. Thanks so much.

Do the best you can with syringing fluids into her, if she's not drinking well, dehydration can make the mobility issues worse.

Thank you for the photos, nice nighttime setup, that keeps them secured and comfy. They are all so sweet and fluffy:)

Thank you! Ive been trying to give her liquids today but she has some fight left in her and I can’t securely hold her, get/keep her mouth open, and get the syringe in her mouth. I’ll have to wait until I have help later. She is still eating scrambled/liquidy eggs and some cucumber and I think I seen her drink on the camera once or twice today but it wasn’t much. She moved around quite a bit this morning with her crawling like motions but is back to being stationary. I will give her the Corrid by mouth again later tonight and try to get as much water as I can. I want to take her to the vet Friday if I can get work off and she’s not better.

Just an update..

I’ve dosed aqua sol for a week with no improvements and then I started seeing blood in her poops so I dosed Corrid for a week. She still wasnt standing, only crawling. But it feels like she gained a tiny bit back. So maybe the parasites are gone and she’s able to absorb her food/nutrients..

Today I took her to the vet. There were no parasites present in her fecal test so either she didn’t have parasites or that medicine got rid of them. The vet gave her an anti inflammatory shot since she isn’t really walking yet. That helped a little. I was able to leave her outside for a few hours for the first time in days and she seemed like her old self. She was so happy to be back with the flock and to be outside.

But then she got tired again and started laying back down so I brought her back in and fed her a scrambled egg.

In addition to the anti inflammatory shot, the dr gave me Baytril to give to her once a day for 12 days. He said the blood in her poop could have also been from infection.

So while we are not totally better yet, I am hopeful my girl will make it.

Thanks everyone who took the time to help.

Thank you for the update.
Glad that you were able to see the vet and get medication for her. Hopefully you'll start to see a marked improvement.

Let us know how she's getting along.

I keep coming back here hoping someone has some advice because I feel like I’m getting nowhere.

So it’s day 6 of the Baytril. Blanche still is just laying around and is starting to lose weight again because she isn’t eating.. I have to syringe her her water and now I’m going to have to syringe her food. I’m so tired. She doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Again the fecal test came back negative for parasites. He felt her joints and said she seems fine.. she just seems weak and won’t walk. She can walk she just seems too weak to do so. Although, yesterday she was able to go outside and scratch for an hour but laid right back down.

I am thinking it is because she is so malnourished from whatever was going on. So I have poultry cell and chicken e-lixir in the water that I am feeding her but it doesn’t seem to be helping. Maybe it’s not enough.. she is really starting to fight me when it comes to the water feedings.

I saw someone mention B2 earlier in this thread and someone else actually made a post in 2022 that they had to give their chicken high doses of B2 and their chicken would get better and then when they stopped it would stop walking again. I am going to start giving her the 3cc of the poultry cell it says you can give them on the bottle but also, my question is how much and how often of the B2 should I give her if I get the tablets from the store?

If she's had Baytril for 6 days with no improvement, I wouldn't continue that.

It can be so hard to know what is causing symptoms of decline. It wouldn't hurt to give the vitamins a try to see if they make a difference.
