I was keeping a good eye on a silkie poulet to see when she'd lay her first egg, being almost 8mo. Indeed that time came and she laid a small whiteish one but afterwards nothing. It's been two weeks now that she hasn't layed again. Is that normal?

I'm not familiar with silkies - tried to get them but the breeder was having a broody issue and the silkies weren't laying. But - I do recall my girls laying and then waiting a few days before laying again. Not 2 weeks though. It could be usual for silkies to that but you'll have to hear from someone who works with that breed.

My thoughts - do they have oyster shell available always? Have they gotten familiar with the nesting boxes? I put golf balls in mine which seemed to help. I still had girls try to hide their nests when they first came online- like they would cover their eggs with bedding. Only the ones that went broody did that though. Pretty sure that's what silkies think they exist for.
