Hello!
I have some 9 1/2 week old silkie babies. There is a little gray one who based on behavior has acted like a rooster since he was very little. I just moved them out to the coop a few days ago so now he can hear the adult hens and rooster. My original flock has had a respiratory illness for awhile which I believe is viral bronchitis as I've treated it with antibiotics to no avail. It's almost gone, but one hen always has a couple sneezes.
The gray silkie this morning seemed to be opening and shutting his beak a lot (not crop adjusting). Almost like trying to get more air. So I became very worried and thought they had gotten the illness somehow (they are separated). Instead he began to make a weird noise which sounded like a tiny crow.. is it possible at 9 1/2 weeks a silkie would be crowing already? I went inside to get my phone to take a video and by then he had stopped and was acting normal.. no opening/closing of the beak. What do you all think? Should I be worried or is he trying to crow? lol
I haven't had chicks for 5 years and I can't remember what baby crows sound like
