Hi everyone.
We have 5 silkies, born on February 13th (15 weeks old now). We have had them since they were two days old. We absolutely love them and they are super spoiled! Originally we got them for eggs, so we hoped to not have any roosters. But lately, 3 or 4 of them have started crowing a little. They only do it in the morning, usually only one at a time and it seems like they usually do it just when they want something (fresh water, new food, or to be let out of their chicken mansion). By this act alone, does that mean that they are roos? We really don't want to get rid of any of them, but with so many roos and only one or two hens, would they eventually start fighting? We live in a neighborhood and even though my immediate neighbors say that they are not bothered, we don't want to push our luck and get more birds, but we really would like some eggs out of this whole thing
Cookie-I'm pretty sure that she is a hen. She is very docile and the softest of the bunch.
Nate-I don't know, I think she may crow a little.
Nugget-I don't know, I think she crows a little too.
Alex-I think that he is a roo, but he doesn't really crow yet.
Marty-I think that he is a roo too. He is the most fiesty and he crows the most (only in the morning until we let them out). But also he was the runt of the bunch and has never had feathers on his feet so I'm not even sure yet if he is a silkie.
Thanks for the help!
I really appreciate it!
Sherry
