Silkies

So when you say a Show Silkie, do you mean a bird that has actually won shows? Or do you mean a higher quality bird from a breeder perhaps versus a bird from a hatchery?🤔
Yes a bird that has high quality and is perfect in every way like you see at the show. I know hatchery’s focus on quality and don’t care about quality that’s why you get crappy birds. But I was just wondering cause I took in these silkies that were abused and they are pet quality but not breeding quality unless you don’t mind pet quality. I’m suppose to be getting real good birds from my friend that had hers in the show soon and I would like to keep my others cause I feel bad for them too

The better birds used for breeding the better chances you’ll have higher quality chicks. There’s nothing wrong in trying to improve on a bird that you have. The chicks produced will more likely be pet quality but if that’s what you’re working for than that’s fine. I have several birds that I keep just for pets and do not use for breeding at all.😊
Even the best breeders with show quality stock generally only consider 10% of the chicks produced show quality. This can also not be determined until the chicks have grown out usually.😊
