Silkies. :)

Well, you can start by looking at the breed standard. To be show quality, a bird must meet that standard in every way. Additionally, it must meet the standard for its variety.

General traits of silkies include silkied feathers, 5 toes per foot, walnut comb, slate to black skin, a crest, foot feathering. Additionally, type needs to be excellent, wings should be held high (horizontal). The tail needs to be well rounded, as does the breast. No duckfoot or vulture hocks, Preferably no horns on comb. Lots more in the standard...

Sorry for the late reply - I just wanted to thank you! I used the standard guide to check the silkies I was gonna buy who apparently have two show parents... but they were SO cheap I was wary.

I checked them over and had another person or ten look at them and YEP fine specimens indeed!! My mother in law is going to show them for sure - she thinks they can win!

Thanks for all the tips on what to look for, helped me get two gorgeous gorgeous perfect silkie hens for $30! :3
