Actually they can be sweet, indifferent, or pains in the butt. Most of mine are fine, but one stalks and plucks all of the feathers from my cochin hen, who now has to live with the ducks.
Mine all roost, but I made a ladder with the rungs really close together. I just wanted them up closer to the heat lamp, for the occasional frigid night. It took them a little longer to figure it out. Also, the roost is only 3 feet high so they can jump without breaking a leg. They get along great with all the others, both standards and banties (except that one cochin), and a couple are extremely broody.
I'm really fond of them!
Mine are very calm, sleep in a pile on the floor. Go broody at the drop of a hat, any hat, anywhere....
They are very entertaining, It's like the Muppet Show in my backyard every day!
They are not good for egg production but the eggs are still good! (but about 1/2 the "normal" size egg)
Mine produce around 12 or so before going broody for a few weeks. They just sit there "hatching tu rds" as my dad used to say. They get up once a day to eat drink and poop. You can break the broody cycle by various methods but I figure "what the heck, it's natural" and just let them sit.
Sometimes I cover them with shavings while they shoot me dirty looks. too funny!
