I have several various girls from barred rock, Orpington,Banty , and recently acquired a 9 week old silky from someone who breeds them that had escaped its run and got into the big chicken run it had been beaten up pretty good, I went to get her (I'm really hoping) brought her home to heal , I have wanted a silky for awhile ,She is doing great starting to grow her feathers back in, but I felt bad being by herself so I came across another silky the same age and gave her a friend , they are about 12 -13 weeks now, I've had them almost a month, they have been best of friends , even sleep on top of each other, but yesterday they started bumping chests which I've seen my baby roo's do, I also think the one who was beaten up tried to crow? I'm really praying I don't have 2 roosters, everything about the beaten up one says girl she stays horizontal not upright, lots of puff coming back in, very calm personality, where the new friend seems to be on alert, they are from 2 different flocks so I cant compare, different combs , beards, color everything, I have a 5 year old who really wants to help with chickens, he handles them and helps care for them daily ,we can't have 2 rooster my run is 30 feet, we are praying for girls or one each we would be heartbroken to have to get rid of someone, I did not have problems placing my other roosters when I get to many youngsters but these cuties have really grown on us , to the point they come inside to visit 😳, they may even be possibly getting a little spoiled, I'm really looking forward to some input on what you all think, HELP !, male or female, I'm hoping to post pictures , gray one was the injured one who is still growing in New head feathers since attack, She (hoping Lola) was pretty well bald when arriving, splash colored is the new friend (Lolly possibly Lyle ) thank you for your help

Welcome to BYC. Silkies can be very difficult to sex but, the one in your photo with a very narrow comb appears to be a female. The other has a bigger, wide comb. I am guessing it's a male. It's not unusual though for two birds of the same sex to fight each other to determine who is boss.

Thank you that's what I'm hoping at least not 2 roos, at the morning feeding when all the other girls come out of their houses the one with dark head smaller comb did make an odd noise almost as if yelling "ahhhawww" kinda like when they yell at each other sound I wouldn't call it a crow and also makes like a whistle sound some trilling, and the white one other than peeps is quite, is that a good sign? These are my first silkys, I sure love them!
