We recently got three ladies and the prior owner couldn't tell us much about them. Any ideas as to what these ladies are. We are thinking silky crosses? Any thoughts??? You can't see it in the pic but they do have feathered feet.

I am not an expert, but they could possibly be a Silkie/Buff Orp cross. Or a Cochin or Cochin Mix?
My buff Cochins look a little like that. Maybe even a Buff Brahma cross. She is very pretty.
Is she standard or bantam sized?

Thanks for the reply. She is just a bit bigger than the silkies we have her in with. There are three of these girls and all look the same. Really good layers too!

Do any of the hens have anything besides single comb, and do any show some skin darkening.. or 5th toe?

One sure fire way is to breed them with a silkie rooster, if any silkie feathered chicks result then that's extremely strong proof they are either silkie crosses or had silkie in ancestry, such as silkie mix X orp or....

All three have the same cones, not sure about the skin color. Guess we'll let one hatch some babies. One of the girls sure is broody. We just adore our chickens and new babies doesn't sond bad at all!

Hmmmm...... the head-poof makes it look like all those Silkie mixes that keep popping up.... but unless it;s super diluted, I'd guess maybe Polish cross or some other top-hatted breed.

I have Silkie/Cochins & they don't look anything like the picture. Plus my girls combs are barely starting to develop & they are about 4 1/2 months already.

Looks more like a BO & something else cross to me. Very pretty girl though!

I guess we'll just have to love em' like they are and stop wondering. They are all sweet girls and get along with our silky flock so well. They can be honorary silkies.

If all have single combs and no extra toes, then my guess would be something else crested crossed with something feather legged. Polish are genetically single combed so a Polish cross/mix does seem more likely.. Polish x Cochin?
