silky's long nails

Our silky has very long toe nails and the other day he broke two of them
Do they need to be trimmed?
The are all the way side ways.
He is 1 year old.
Any suggestion is welcome

just clip below the quick (live part). if it bleeds use all purpose flour or blood stop to stop the bleeding and will be fine in a few min. Mine bleed sometime but theyve all managed to stay healthy. just dont cut to far up the nail. i use normal nail clippers.

The dotted line is where you want to cut. Since they are long, start with cutting small bits before really cutting deep.
