About 2 weeks ago we picked up some EE chick and have now moved them into an intermediate coop so they can finish growing before integrating them into our little flock. We have placed this coop & run next to our other coop to allow the older chickens to get used to the newbies. Our Black Cochin Bantam started acting funny and pacing back and forth next to the chick coop. I decided to put her in and see if she wanted to take care of the chicks. She went in and left the chicks alone but spent quite a bit of time scratching and moving bedding around in the coop. Things went quiet after a while and then she came out of the coop and wanted to get out of the run. I let her out and she got a drink and went off with all of our other chickens. I checked the chick coop and she had laid an egg. I think she just wanted to use it as a giant nesting box. Silly Chicken!

I hope this is a thread for silly chicken behavior. Today while weeding and tending my garden I notice one of my little 11 week old porcelain D'uccle chicks dragging a weed. (I have a compost bin inside the chicken run.) She kept shaking her head and wiping her beak but just couldn't get rid of it. I picked her up and very gently pulled on the weed. The second picture is what came out!! Silly chicken! Not sure how she got all that in there. I'm going to be more selective with what I toss into that compost bin for sure.

Silly Chickens, yes, I have had chickens walk around with an extra long piece of grass hanging out of their mouth. Little Piggies with wings.:D:lau
