We have 3 Red Stars (named Rosie, Annie, and Daphne) that we bought a week ago. They are still quarantined in the small pen in the garage. Our 11 other chicks are in the coop in the backyard and free range out there during the day, so I've been trying to get the new girls to hang out in the front yard whenever we're out there.
They were doing pretty well with me yesterday while I was doing some planting, but as soon as I go inside for a minute, they either huddle under a parked car or go in the garage. They will not leave the garage or drive way unless you pick them up and put them in the grass. My others are thrilled to free range as much as possible. Are these just weird chickens? What should I do to encourage them to enjoy the yard?
Also, they are supposedly 11 weeks old. They are smaller than my others who are 9 weeks. They eat and drink fine. Are Red sex links normally kind of petite? Here they are "free ranging" in the garage.
And in the driveway by the recycling bin.
