Turned out I have a broody hen and will be expecting little chickies in a week or so. Question is, the nesting box is off the ground and I was wondering if I would need to put the chicks on the ground myself or would my hen move them herself?

Thanks for reading!

This is my first time with hatching babies.

They may fall out, and then she will have to leave the remaining hatching eggs to stay with the new chicks. You should probably put them on the ground, and if you have a long hatch, you may need to take the babies and give them back later to keep her from abandoning the rest of the eggs.

Or you could put some boards across the front of her nest to keep them in, and after they are all hatched and dry, maybe 24 hours after the last hatch, you could put them all down.
