I have got a bit of a silly question. We have been keeping chickens noe for 3 or 4 years and feel very competent in most areas of chicken keeping. We have tryed hatching some chicks off the last two years under a hen and have hatched 9 chicks off over the two years. 6 in last year and 3 this year and every single one has been a cockerel. Is this just a coincidence or is there more to it. I have been told that the sex is determined by the temperature during incubation, is there any truth in this.

definetly NOT the temperature to make them roos...or so ive been told..i hatch just fine..usually more hens in my case.

so i have just been unluckly (good job we like chicken soup) and trust me this wont put me off

Incubating temperature CAN affect the ratio of males to females that hatch, but it's more likely you've got hens that throw cockerels. It does happen.
