Silly silkies!

My silkie hens will not lay in a nesting box! They lay all over the floor and the eggs get so dirty! The nesting box is low to the ground so they can get in easily, and the rooster doesn't hang out in there. Any ideas?

I have always provided a ground nest for my silkies and other bantam, many prefer to be on the floor. Shallow pans or boxes, and even kitty litter pans work. You can add some ceramic eggs to show them where to lay. Silkies have troubles getting up into nests sometimes because they can't fly.
