I realize I am responding to an older post but I actually have examples to share. I have one rooster, a beautiful Silver Laced Wyandotte and a flock of Buff Orpington hens. One of the broody hens sat on a clutch of eggs earlier this summer and managed to hatch 4 chicks. They don't look anything like I thought they would.
I originally got the Buff Orpington's as chicks. They all arrived with beautiful yellow feathers which quickly turned into their current orange color. Earlier this year I purchased six Silver Laced Wyandotte hen chicks to add to the flock. They were all mottled black/silver in color and still are to date. I was expecting a cross of the two with these chicks. That isn't the case.
They hatched out white with a black slash/dot on the back of their head. They are still mainly white with the exception of their tails which are black/blue. They also have some black markings on the bottom of their wings and on their necks. There is a bit of soft color on their necks, sort of light orange. They truly look nothing like either breed!
